This is a particularly accurate, bas relief version of the icon of Our Lady of San Luca from Bologna. The model for this plaque may date as far back as the 17th Century as, even if it has been worn by numerous steps during the cast to mould process, it still displays the refined terracotta sculpture craftsmanship of the Bologna baroque period. The moulding is articulated by bold, plastic movements and a good compositional structure.
