The plaque features an image of a half length Virgin Mary holding a sleeping Baby Jesus in her arms, wrapped in the folds of her cloak. An undulating ribbon-shaped title block runs along the bottom, with the inscription: OUR LADY OF DIVINE PROVIDENCE, SASSO MORELLI. This iconographic concept focuses on the theme of tender affection expressed in the face of the Virgin as she looks at her sleeping son and holds his hand. The moulded surface of the plaque displays the soft, rounded style, typical sense of 19C religious tablets. The frame is probably a cast of a wooden or metal one. The bright contrasts of the range of colours is elegantly naturalist in line with the Imola ceramic tradition.
