Madonna (Andrea della Robbia). Dimensions: 16.8 x 15.2 x 4.1 cm.

The plaque features an image of a half length Virgin Mary in profile, wearing a halo. Her head is slightly bowed and her right hand is resting on the base of her neck. This typical expression of sorrowful contemplation can be seen in numerous ceramic plaques created by Andrea della Robbia,and his school (1435-1525), from which this image derives. The plaque depicts part of a full figure Virgin Mary kneeling down in adoration of her Child that Andrea della Robbia also uses for a Nativity theme.
